Dr. Amritpal Singh Shergill

Psychologist

Dr. Amritpal Singh Shergill is a Licensed Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC #1332). He has been in practice since 1998.

Dr. Shergill takes an integrated biopsychosocial therapy approach. His practice focuses on rehabilitation psychology including psychological assessments, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, trauma, and adjustment to life stressors. He has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families. Dr. Shergill is fluent in English, Punjabi, and Hindi.

Dr. Shergill received his doctorate and master’s in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 1997 and 1992. His masters and doctoral research focused on acculturation and intercultural psychology. In addition, he has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (1988) and Diploma in Guidance Studies (1989) from UBC. He completed his doctoral internship at the Psychology Department at WorkSafeBC (1996-97). He is also an EMDR certified therapist.

Dr. Shergill has worked as a counsellor and a sessional instructor at the University of British Columbia; program psychologist in interdisciplinary pain management programs and medical rehabilitation programs; and as Director of Operations for Columbia Health Centre. He has served as an Accreditation Surveyor with the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF); as a member of the National Ethno-cultural Advisory Committee for Corrections Canada; and a Board Member for Options Community Services Society.

Dr. Shergill served in the following capacity on the former College of Psychologist of British Columbia (CPBC): Chair of the Inquiry Committee from 2022 to June 2024; member of the Inquiry Committee from 2020 to June 2024; and as a CPBC Board Member from 2022 to June 2024.

Dr. Shergill has conducted numerous workshops and training sessions. He has served as a guest lecturer with a variety of organizations and educational institutions, and speaks on issues related to family dynamics, gender equity, and mental well-being.

Dr. Shergill is a member in good standing with the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA), the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), and the American Psychological Association (APA).
